The Oregonian posted an article on yesterday’s Senate vote to outlaw dangerous exotic animals from being kept as pets. You can read it here – below you will find an excerpt:
Currently, Oregonians receive permits from the state Department of Agriculture to keep exotic animals. Senate Bill 391 would not force people to give up those pets, but it would prevent them from bringing home new ones. It passed 28-2 and now moves to the House.
The bill comes after the much-reported incident in Connecticut where a pet chimpanzee mauled a woman. But pressure to change the law started in 2002, when Al the alligator escaped from his home in Beaverton.
